One of Estepona’s renowned hiking trails, the Paseo de Los Pinsapos trail, offers a low-difficulty route that can be enjoyed with family and friends. This picturesque trail, located on the road to Genalguacil, winds through Spanish fir forests in the Sierra Bermeja mountains, showcasing the area’s distinctive vegetation and scenery. The trail culminates at a charming square after crossing a small bridge over the Garganta del Algarrobo River, where a mural adorned with poetry by Federico García Lorca awaits.

PICO DE LOS REALES CLIMB TRAIL 

For those seeking a moderate challenge, the Pico de Los Reales climb trail in Estepona offers a rewarding hiking experience. Starting at Plazoleta Salvador Guerrero, just a 33-minute drive from the town centre, this trail leads to a breathtaking viewpoint offering panoramic vistas of the Costa del Sol and, on clear days, views extending all the way to Africa. The trail, parallel to the road connecting Estepona and Jubrique, guides hikers to the peak of Los Reales at 1452 meters above sea level, providing an opportunity to marvel at the region’s diverse flora and fauna.

CHARCA DE LAS NUTRIAS TRAIL 

The Charca de las Nutrias trail, a simple and family-friendly route located in the southern Sierra Bermeja mountains near Estepona, invites walkers to a tranquil outdoor excursion. Beginning on the Camino del Castor path, the trail meanders across the river of the same name, passing through lush vegetation and small water pools ideal for a refreshing dip during the warmer seasons.

MEDIUM-HIGH DIFFICULTY HIKING TRAILS IN ESTEPONA

For hikers seeking longer trails spanning between 11 and 20 kilometers, Estepona offers a selection of medium to high difficulty routes that lead to some of the region’s most picturesque towns nestled within the mountain range. These trails promise a blend of scenic beauty, charming villages, warm hospitality and delectable gastronomy, creating a truly immersive hiking experience.

GENALGUACIL – JUBRIQUE TRAIL 

The Genalguacil – Jubrique trail along the Matagallar path is a scenic hiking route that showcases the natural splendor of Estepona’s mountainous terrain. Starting from Genalguacil, renowned for its artistic charm and white-washed villages, this circular trail presents a moderately challenging ascent, rewarding hikers with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. Traversing the Genal valley, the trail features cork oaks, pine trees, chestnuts, and a variety of bird species, offering a delightful immersion into nature’s wonders.

PUERTO DE LA ARTESA TRAIL

The Puerto de la Artesa trail, whether explored on foot or by bicycle, provides hikers with spectacular views of Estepona’s mountain range. This linear route, crossing a mountain pass, offers a medium difficulty level due to its length and limited water points along the trail. Halfway through the journey, hikers can find a detour leading to the SL-A 169 path, connecting to the Fuente del Porrejón fountain for a refreshing break before continuing the hike. Starting from Puerto de Peñas Blancas and concluding at Puerto de Artesa, this trail showcases the natural beauty of the region.

ALCORNOCALILLO TRAIL 

Commencing from Puerto de Peñas Blancas, the Alcornocalillo – Altabacales trail is a longer route suitable for hiking, cycling or horseback riding that presents a greater challenge due to its length. This linear descending trail guides adventurers through a lush grove of cork oaks before leading to the Altabacales path and concluding at Paraje de Nicola. Along the route, hikers encounter two water points, the Fuente del Tajo Azul and Fuente del Saucillo fountains, providing opportunities for hydration and rest amidst the scenic surroundings. The trail culminates at Paraje de Nicola, where hikers can reflect on their journey before returning to town.

PICO DE LOS REALES

A challenging yet rewarding hike to Pico de los Reales, the highest peak in the Sierra Bermeja Mountain range that towers over Estepona.
